If you were even fingerprinted for an offense, a criminal record with that information has been generated and is on file with the New Jersey State Police. Where to Get Information About Your Record
In order to file a Petition for Expungement in New Jersey, you have to collect certain information about your arrest or conviction. If you had an attorney represent you, he/she may have a copy of your records needed to file a Petition for Expungement. If you did not have an attorney, or your attorney does not have this information it will have to be obtained from another source.
The Superior Court Criminal Case Management Office can advise you where and how to obtain records for adult arrests and indictable/criminal convictions. You must contact the Superior Court Criminal Case Management Office in the county where you arrest or conviction occurred. There is a $52.50 filing fee.
Superior Court Family Division Offices can advise you how to obtain records for juvenile arrests and convictions.
If you cannot locate your records, you may also need to call the county prosecutor’s office in the county where you were arrested, prosecuted, or convicted.
